We all knew it had to happen – the price for the Kindle would drop. While it’s still not low enough that I would buy it, Amazon has lowered the price to $299 for the Kindle.
Of course, Amazon had to lower the price due to competition from other companies, Hearst and Plastic Logic included. But the company that was once saying it couldn’t afford to go below its high price point is now claiming that increased volume is the reason for the decrease.
For the past two Christmases, the Kindle has sold out of stock, but just how much stock there was in the first still remains a mystery. Amazon refuses to share its numbers.
But really, this is the path of all new technological devices. I’m waiting until it goes to $199. Here’s the full story on Bloomberg.
